Why visit BEVAGNA?
Because as Spello, is part of the club "the most beautiful villages in Italy".
Because it has a unique square in that it houses not just one church like all medieval squares, but two, one in front of the other, the Church of San Michele Arcangelo and the Church of San Silvestro, dating back to the XIIth century.
Beacuse visiting Bevagna means to visit one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and because in June it gives life for ten days, to the so-called "Market of the Gaite", a re-enactment of the life that took place between 1250 and 1350, with production of ancient artifacts. During this event, the people of Bevagna, wear clothes of that time. The medieval crafts ,with their respective workshops, that of wax, paper, painting and loom, can still be visited all year round by appointment.
Because it is one of the very few Umbrian towns to conserve public wash-houses, used until a few decades ago by the drinking ladies, in stark contrast to the famous saying "dirty clothes are washed in the family".
